Rules

  1. Each entry must be built by the person named on the entry form.  No absentee registration, builder must be present.  Registration will take place between 9:00 AM and 11:30 PM on the day of the event.  If your plans require early departure inform the Head Judge no later than 1:00 PM.  You risk not being judged but we will try to accommodate you.  You must arrange for someone to collect any award you might win.
  2. Models that have won an award at a previous NorthshoreCon are not eligible.
  3. Judging will be based on the modeler’s demonstration of basic modeling skills and, where appropriate, reasonable, historical or factual accuracy, as outlined in the IPMS Competition Handbook.  If your model requires special knowledge to evaluate please provide suitable documentation to assist judging.
  4. The judges may add, split, combine or delete categories as needed.
  5. Models which are deemed to be offensive per IPMS guidelines will be removed and entry fees returned.
  6. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded (numbers permitting) in each category except Juniors.  There will be no sweeps, only one place award per person, per category.  Special awards are not considered part of a sweep.
  7. The Juniors category will be judged using an open system that will award one of three prize levels:  Gold, Silver, or Bronze to each entry.
  8. Collections consist of 3 to 5 related models.  Collections will be judged on how closely related they are to one another.  For example, a collection of variants on a single airframe is a tighter relationship than one of different aircraft operated by a unit.  Note: Entries of more than 5 models will not be judged.
  9. To facilitate judging, models in display cases will not be allowed without permission of the Head Judge.
  10. During judging, some judges may need to pick up a model to inspect more closely.  If you don’t want your model handled, you must say so clearly on the entry form accompanying your model.
  11. Models may be displayed on bases.  But only the model will be judged unless the entry is a diorama.
  12. Entries can be displayed with nameplates, spec sheets, etc. but the modelers name should not appear on the display.
  13. A vignette is a smaller scene with five or fewer figures, with or without a vehicle or other element.  It is not required to present a theme or story line.  I may depict just a “snapshot” or “slice of life”.  A diorama is a larger scene with more than five figures and/or two or more vehicles/elements.  It is required to contain a theme and/or story line.
  14. Northshore Scale Modelers reserve the right to use photographs of contest entries for future publicity materials.
  15. Neither Northshore Scale Modelers nor the hall proprietors will be liable for loss or damage to the exhibits, or to personal property at the exhibit
  16. In any and all disputes the Head Judge has the final say.
